EPCOR Payments Conference 2020 - Virtual Edition is NEXT WEEK! In anticipation of our conference, we reached out to some of our speakers to learn more about their background. And today, we’re getting to know Nathan Sweaney of Secure Ideas.

Nathan currently serves as Senior Security Consultant at Secure Ideas. He shared, “Secure Ideas is a security consulting company with expertise in offensive simulations. We perform penetration testing and security risk assessments to help organizations discover the business risk posed by attackers. Our slogan "Professionally Evil" is more of a perspective. Our consultants provide a creative "evil" mindset to the risk analysis process to determine how vulnerabilities could be used for maximum impact.  As one of the most senior consultants at Secure Ideas, I've had the opportunity to perform attack simulations against a wide range of companies.”

While Nathan has participated with other similar organizations and conferences, this is his first time joining us for an EPCOR Payments Conference. Regarding his speaking engagements, Nathan explained: “One of our core goals as a small company is to promote security education in various industries. To meet this goal, we seek out organizations where we can provide subject matter expertise to folks that need it.  Our hope is that EPCOR member organizations will improve their security posture and minimize the potential for security breaches.”

During his session, Cyber Security Trends Impacting the Future, Nathan be discussing some of the trends in cyber security that are impacting the future of payments. Attackers are constantly looking for ways to take advantage of users, so Nathan will be emphasizing the importance of payment professionals considering and addressing those attacks.

If Nathan could share one tip with payments professionals, he would say, “Be intentional. Security doesn't happen by accident. You have to schedule time to analyze your security posture and make intentional steps towards improvements.”

We asked Nathan what makes him the person he is he said, “Plato wrote, "The unexamined life is not worth living," and I take that very seriously. I'm a natural skeptic that tends to fall on the conservative side of the political spectrum. I love arguing about politics and religion with folks who are serious about analyzing why they believe what they believe.”
