Federal Reserve’s RFI on the Future of the Federal Reserve Banks’ Check Services

By Shelly Sipple posted 9 hours ago

On December 9, 2025, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gather feedback on the future of the Reserve Banks’ check services.

The RFI seeks input on two key areas:

(1) Potential actions regarding the Reserve Banks’ check operations and

(2) the broader continued use of checks.

We would appreciate your feedback on this important issue, which you can share by completing a 23-question survey by January 21. Your responses will help shape our comment letter, which we will submit to the Federal Reserve Board on behalf of our membership.

Before taking the survey, you may want to review the full RFI for context.

We encourage member financial institutions, affiliates, processors and businesses that use or receive checks to submit their own comments. To keep a copy of your survey responses, select “Send me a copy of my responses” (after the last question) and enter your email address. You’ll then receive an email from SurveyMonkey (surveymonkey@t.outbound.surveymonkey.com) titled, “Your answers: Request for Information on the Future of the Federal Reserve Banks’ Check Services.”

You may use this copy to draft your organization’s comment letter, which can be submitted directly through the agency’s website:

1. Enter “OP-1874” in the “Search Proposals for Comment” box and click the “Search” icon.

2. Click “Submit Comment,” then “Continue” when presented with the notice.

3. Upload your comment letter to the portal.

All comments must be submitted to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors by March 9, 2026.

Your input is critical to shaping the future of check services. Please take this opportunity to share your perspective.
